Day 22: The Resumé

Scripture: Philippians 3: 1-11

Topic: The Resumé

I have always been intrigued by the list of things I read whenever I ask someone for their profile. Somehow if not careful we end up esteeming qualification over God’s wisdom. Now I’m talking in Kingdom of God instances. Yes it’s good to know who our speakers or guests are. But we should not let the length of their resumé or profile blur their earthly kingdom mission.

Then there are those people who give very little information about themselves. Not that they don’t want to give out their achievements but they assume knowing who I am is more valuable than knowing what I have achieved. Not sure if that’s being selfish or just self pity so you don’t come across as self-righteous but nonetheless people view when and how to give our resumé differently.

Being a Christian and spirit filled sometimes makes us want to bring to God a resumé of all that we have done in His Glorious Kingdom. In the beginning when we got saved it was completely easy to depend on God. But as we grow and mature we become aware of just how hard it is to change. Therefore we assume God needs a reminder of how hard we have worked, how well we live and how often we pray and fast. Somehow as we mature we get this crazy idea that we suddenly ha e to earn and deserve what we can never earn nor deserve. We bring up these rules and activities in churches that program us to view spirituality by how many activities and rules we follow assuming the more work we do the more God will see how I deserve His blessings.

Truth is all our actions are useless! We don’t act for God to bless us.

Paul writes:

For we who worship by the Spirit of God are the ones who are truly circumcised. We rely on what Christ Jesus has done for us. We put no confidence in human effort, though I could have confidence in my own effort if anyone could. Indeed, if others have reason for confidence in their own efforts, I have even more! I was circumcised when I was eight days old. I am a pure-blooded citizen of Israel and a member of the tribe of Benjamin—a real Hebrew if there ever was one! I was a member of the Pharisees, who demand the strictest obedience to the Jewish law. I once thought these things were valuable, but now I consider them worthless because of what Christ has done. Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have discarded everything else, counting it all as garbage, so that I could gain Christ
Philippians 3:3‭-‬5‭, ‬7‭-‬8 NLT

What knowledge and information has taught us is nothing compared to what faith in Jesus Christ can give us and has already done for us.

Our resumés are useless when it comes being Christ’ righteousness. The only resumé we need is that of Jesus Christ. All His achievements and accomplishments and victory become ours.

Paul writes writes;

I no longer count on my own righteousness through obeying the law; rather, I become righteous through faith in Christ. For God’s way of making us right with himself depends on faith.
Philippians 3:9 NLT
